Does your horse bend badly or can’t you achieve riding a nice circle? Does your horse always accelerate in gallop or are there difficulties with the changes? Does your horse suddenly show signs of stable mischief or is there girth envy?

Each performance, from recreational to top sport level, asks a lot of both bodies and because we believe that every ‘athlete’ deserves a proper treatment, Human & Horse Physio also answers for the wellbeing of your animal. Each minor physical or mental discomfort in your horse can evolve, as a snowball, with every following riding session into an unstoppable avalanche. Let your horse be checked out on time so that problems don’t get the time to escalate and you and your horse can remain the best of friends.

    Our services

    Examination

During the first contact there will be an extensive examination. In an interview we gather what the complaints are ‘according the rider’. Then we let the horse do the talking. We start by inspecting the build and special features or abnormalities of the horse and afterwards we put the horse in motion to analyse the unburdened gaits.

When the horse shows no signs of being lame in the unburdened examination we always continue with movement under the saddle. First and foremost we check whether the saddle is fit for the horse’s back and only then we place the rider on the horse to watch how the horse moves under the saddle and the rider and or how the rider influences the horse.

Afterwards all the joints and muscles of the horse are checked to come to a work diagnosis and a treatment plan.

    Fasciatherapy

The horse can also be treated with soft yet deep techniques that stimulate the connective tissue and restart the self-regulating system. Of course it’s not possible to include the horse verbally in the treatment and to place the attention like with a human, but because of the greater connection of the horse with its body, the horse will automatically point its attention to the acts of the therapist.

By putting the fascia in motion we stimulate blood and lymph vessels and a chain of reactions in all great systems in the horse’s body. The horse will slowly relax by regaining the balance (homeastasis) in all tissues and organs.

Recuperation after sport and recovery after an injury can be sped up significantly. The horse’s performance will improve and the mental condition will also become more stable.

    Sports physiotherapy

Training the 5 physical pillars of the horse are of course also part of the game. Here we have to be a bit more creative and work with more consideration than with a human because we cannot just explain an exercise to a horse or make clear it’s in its own best interest.

Knowing what you are training and why is an important fact here. That is why we recommend advisory lessons in a training plan to make sure that YOU become the best trainer for your horse.

We can train coordination by using the principles of straightness training and academic riding. By learning stretch, stabilising and mobility exercises you can provide to the daily needs of your horse.

Besides training the physical pillars in sports physiotherapy we also use sports massages , electrotherapy and manual lymph drainage for acute and too painful joint injuries or postoperative rehabilitation.

    Medical taping

The taping of horses is over the hair. Because of the minor pulling that the tape has on the hairs the different subdermal systems shall be called upon just as it does for humans. The tape is mostly used as support for a treatment such as for example a lymph drainage or massage, but can also be put on half an hour before training to enhance and improve the proprioception during training.

    Training the horse

Human & Horse Physio helps you as a rider to help your horse in its rehabilitation. We will help you with straightness training and training horses coming out of injurie as well as horses with a chronic mechanical of psychological problem by passing and teaching useful exercises and implementing the suggested plans.
